As I researched other editing services, I quickly discovered a couple of things. First, most of the businesses were MUCH larger than my modest venture! They were staffed with a veritable cornucopia of editors, compartmentalized, and only occasionally was there a crossing over into another category editor’s area. There were proofreaders, copy writers, copy editors, line editors, and many specialists. My understanding of the process was that each service had its own price scale also.

The writer had a choice of what service (or ALL) to use if they were continuing on with the company. If they  ONLY needed proofreading they were DONE. If they wanted notes and detailed feedback, they might jump directly to line editing, the deepest dive into the writer’s copy. Of course, a different pricing scale would start again, generally more expensive than simple proofreading. 

I studied this system, and I compared it to how I approach my work. When working on any copy, I meticulously check for spelling, punctuation, and typographical errors. I  provide a thorough review, catching mistakes automated AI tools might miss. 

To sum it up :

• Thorough error-checking
• Maintain document integrity 
• Catch what AI tools miss. Re: Sphinx picture. I typed in an image search for  “editing” and this was a choice that AI gave me. I rest my case. I guess I was meant to edit the nose back on?

Fee for service: It’s a part of a whole. Holistic. The cost will be rolled into the one hourly fee of $35.
